The New Jersey Hall of Fame located in The American Dream Mall NJ, honors many athletes, actors, artists, or any citizens who made a real, valuable, impact for the state of New Jersey and for others. The Hall of Fame has existed for a couple of years now, and its main priority is to inspire others with the stories of people who have overcome every imaginable obstacle, like war, the bleakness of poverty, disability, fear, failure and more.
The Newest Everyday Hero
The Hall of Fame has a section of honorary members named “Everyday Heroes” in which they specifically pay respects and honor to those who’ve shown strong character and selflessness, which has positively impacted people around the Garden State. On July 11th, 2026, Charlie Inverso was awarded as an Everyday Hero for his passion and positive change in the community.
In 2007, Charlie and others founded one of the only known non-profit soccer youth organizations in the country named Mooch Soccer. It was unlike any other club or program in the state, and was seen as a hard to pull off. But with the help of fundraisers, donations, and the support from Mercer County coaches/players, it was possible.
“When I think of Hometown heroes, I think of cops, firefighters, or doctors. I don’t really picture myself.”
But, to many, he was a true, everyday hometown hero. Charlie changed the lives of many, and provided opportunities for talent to really be demonstrated. He’s helped develop plenty of D1 players and top ranked high school recruits all throughout his 18 years of coaching for the free Mooch program.
Who is Mooch?
The name “Mooch” soccer is in honor of Glenn “Mooch” Myernick, who played and coached for Team USA. Glenn passed away unexpectedly in 2006, due to a heart attack, following the recent World Cup in which he coached. Charlie started this organization with the aim to continue on his legacy and coaching style for generations to come. “We need lots of programs like Mooch, not only to make good players but also to make good people” Inverso mentions, as he explains how he wishes there were more non-profit organizations across the Garden State and the country.
A Lasting Impact on the Community and Beyond
Charlie’s impact goes beyond soccer, through his ability to build strong character and community in young athletes. Charlie Inverso’s name will be talked about for years, and he always will be remembered as a legend in New Jersey athletics.
